IntraLase®
The World's Safest LASIK – All Laser Eye Surgery Introduced by Dello Russo Laser Vision in Feb. 2002
All laser LASIK eye surgery with IntraLase® technology is provided at our Bergenfield, New Jersey and New York locations to ensure that our patients experience the safest and most advanced vision correction treatments available.
Most people would be surprised to know that traditional LASIK laser eye surgery is only partly performed by a laser. The first step, creating a corneal flap, is performed using a mechanical blade to cut into the surface of the eye. Only the second step, reshaping the eye under the flap, is performed using a laser. This blade and laser combination approach is no longer the safest LASIK procedure available.
Since LASIK laser eye surgery was introduced (with Dr. Dello Russo’s help) a decade ago, there have been steady advances in the safety and outcomes of the procedure. There are two sources of complications, as there are two steps: 1) blade and 2) Excimer laser. The first advance in safety came when Dr. Dello Russo replaced his "Broad-Beam" laser with the first commercially available "Flying-Spot" laser in 1999. This dramatic advance overcame many of the limitations and complications, like night symptoms, associated with "Broad-Beam" laser systems.
Eliminating the blade from surgery now means eliminating the most frequent cause of serious complications. A revolutionary new laser, based on cutting-edge technology, has been introduced to replace the blade traditionally used for the first step of LASIK. IntraLase® has effectively eliminated the adverse events associated with the use of a blade. IntraLase® allows the surgeon unprecedented control and precision in the operating room, and an unprecedented level of safety to our patients.
Dello Russo Laser Centers provide a perfect marriage of two of the most advanced laser platforms to offer you the safest all laser LASIK eye surgery possible.
Key Points of Interest:
1) Traditional blade LASIK is only part-laser.
2) The biggest advance in Laser Vision Correction since LASIK was introduced a decade ago.
3) Virtually eliminates all complications caused by blades, the most common cause of LASIK complications.
4) Some day all LASIK will be performed as All-Laser LASIK.
5) As of Feb. 2002, only ten leading surgeons in the world can offer you all-laser LASIK
6) If you have been waiting for safer LASIK, this is it.
7) Everything ever invented took time to be perfected, now LASIK has advanced to a safer LASIK, All Laser LASIK.
8) It's taken over a decade for LASIK to go from part laser to All-Laser.
9) Improved surgeon control and flexibility translates directly into unprecedented safety for our patients
10) Since flap stability with Intralase is provided by improved side cut architecture smaller hinge angles can be utilized, thereby increasing the effective bed diameter
11) Intralase exceeds the performance standards of current mechanical microkeratomes (blades)
12) Reproducibility of critical flap parameters (such as diameter, thickness and hinge width) has been clearly demonstrated to be far more predictable than mechanical microkeratomes
13) The greater post-operative stability of the corneal flap created with IntraLase® greatly reduces the likelihood of post-operative flap complications
14) As demonstrated by electron microscopy, the surface quality of the corneal stroma underlying the flap is far superior with Intralase when compared to mechanical microkeratomes
15) Use of IntraLase® avoids the potentially dangerous elevation in intraocular pressure associated with mechanical microkeratomes
