Excimer Laser Vision Correction Surgery

The national clinical studies for the Excimer laser surgery began in 1991 and lasted until 1996. The New Jersey Eye Center was the most prominent of the 10 VISX Excimer laser centers during this time period. More laser vision correction treatments were performed at our New Jersey center than in any other location in the nation using the VISX Laser.

In 1996 the FDA acted on the data submitted, in part by the New Jersey Eye Center, and approved the laser for treatment of low myopia up to -6.00 diopters. In 1997, the FDA approved the Excimer laser for vision correction surgery. We are proud of the role that we played and are still playing. According to VISX, Inc., Dr. Dello Russo is a “pioneer in Excimer Laser Surgery” and to date has successfully performed thousands of treatments.

In 1997 the New Jersey Eye Center obtained approval to conduct unique clinical trials to be centered only at this center.

In conclusion, it would appear that any prescription for which a person wears contact lenses and/or glasses for distance is treatable. The New Jersey Eye Center is very proud of the role it has played over the last 10 years in helping to develop, implement and test the VISX Excimer Laser for vision correction surgery and is proud to continue its application to higher degrees of nearsightedness and farsightedness.
